The Wat opens for "live-in" retreatants 3 days prior to each retreat and stays open for
3 days after each retreat for those finishing the retreat. The Wat is always open for daytime visitors.
Climate
- Koh Phangan is a tropical island, warm all year. The "hot" season is around April. The
"rainy" season is around October to November. The "cool" season is around December to February. Cotton
or natural fiber clothing is most suitable. You may need a light jacket during the rainy or cool seasons. There is no
malaria on Koh Phangan.
Accommodation
- Dormitory or shared rooms. The monastery provides mosquito nets, blankets, sleeping and sitting
pillows, sitting mats and straw mats for sleeping. Those with bad backs may wish to bring a sleeping mat or buy one on the
island. Bathrooms are Thai-style, i.e. a water tank with a scoop and a "squatting-toilet". Western toilets are
also available for those who need it.
Helpful items to bring
- Insect repellent, toiletries, medicine (if needed). Also suggested are: paracetamol or aspirin,
electrolytes, tiger balm or deep heat creams. Flashlights and umbrellas can be rented for a minimal fee.
How to get here
- Take a train or bus to Surat Thani, then a boat to Koh Phangan; or take a plane to Surat Thani or
Koh Samui, then a boat to Koh Phangan. From the Thong Sala pier, take a taxi or motorcycle-taxi to the Wat.
